Mortality, life expectancy and health years are gradually decreasing as health care standards improve in Europe.

After 65 years of age, women live in health for another 8.5 years, men only 7.6.

As a result of increasing living standards and better lifestyle or prevention, as well as advances in medicine, life expectancy has risen sharply over the past century, not only in the Czech Republic but also in Europe.

According to European statistics, the most years after the 65th year without serious illnesses are Norwegians (15.9 years), within the European Union Swedes (15.8 years). This is well above the European average of 9.4 years for women and 9.6 for men.
