On September 19th, The Centre for Palliative care organized a unique one-day conference in cooperation with Prague 10, under the aegis of the councillor Mgr. Počarovský, on cooperation in care of patients in their final stages of life. The conference was represented by great names of the Czech palliative care. The conference itself has been accompanied by PhDr. Martin Loučka, PhD, the introductory greetings were presented by the chief physician MUDr. Irena Závadová, next spoke the chief physician MUDr. Martin Havrda and MUDr. Adam Houska. As foreign guests, meaning Czech doctors, who work permanently outside of the Czech Republic, performed MUDr. Radka Klézlová (Great Britain) and MUDr. Zdeněk Bystřický (Austria).
The conference included not only lectures, but also casuistics, interactive workshops or networking, “We can gladly state the shift in palliative care towards the quality and interest in the patient and his/her needs as well as the needs of the family,” describes Mgr. Vojtěch Měřička,AChLj, a social service methodologist. One of the main problems was, among other things, lack of time of the doctor to talk to the patient and their family (to not only provide information, but also understanding). “MUDr. Klézlová’s and MUDr. Bystřický’s lectures about relations abroad, palliative approach and differences in systems, which are very inspiring and considerable, were very intriguing,” concludes Mgr. Vojtěch Měřička, AChLj, his participation in the conference.
